Home to approximately 210,000 citizens, Saginaw County is believed to have acquired its name through Native American references stemming from early American history. The county seat- or administrative center- can be located in the City of Saginaw. This county in Michigan contains a total of approximately 816 miles of land, and contains numerous rivers and lakes within its boundaries. Saginaw County also forms a section of the region known in Michigan as Flint/Tri-Cities region.

When dealing with Judiciary proceedings within this County we can see two court systems. The 70th District Court is one part of this system and deals with misdemeanors- which are less serious crimes which carry a maximum sentence of no more than one year jail time (this can include traffic infractions). This Court can also deal with the beginning stages of a felony hearing. Handling the initial arraignment, this district court can choose to send the case to the Circuit court if the judge deems there is sufficient evidence to go to trial.  When handling civil suits the court is allowed to handle any case where the amount in dispute does not exceed $25,000.

The Saginaw County Circuit Court is comprised of five judges who have been elected in a non-partisan elected. This court may hear cases disputing felony charges, misdemeanor charges where the maximum punishment can exceed one year jail time, civil cases where the amount in dispute is greater than $25,000 and domestic issues such as divorce and certain other family related issues. Unlike the District Courts, the Circuit Court can hear and handle appeals brought forth from District Courts, Probate Courts, and other administrative agencies.
